چکیده

The development of projections from the retinas to the cortex is mathematically analyzed according to the previously proposed thermodynamic formulation of the self-organization of neural networks. Three types of submodality included in the visual afferent pathways are assumed in two models: model (A), in which the ocularity and retinotopy are considered separately, and model (B), in which on-center/off-center pathways are considered in addition to ocularity and retinotopy. Model (A) shows striped ocular dominance spatial patterns and, in ocular dominance histograms, reveals a dip in the binocular bin. Model (B) displays spatially modulated irregular patterns and shows single-peak behavior in the histograms. When we compare the simulated results with the observed results, it is evident that the ocular dominance spatial patterns and histograms for models (A) and (B) agree very closely with those seen in monkeys and cats.

Development of Ocularity Domains and Growth Behaviour of Axon Terminals

Ontogenetic development of ocularity domains-stripes, patches and layers in cortex, colliculus superior and lateral geniculate nucleus-is the result of organization that may either be intrinsic to the postsynaptic structure or induced to it by the aaerents. A speciic type of axonal growth behaviour that was recently proposed as a basis for ontogenetic development of retinotopy is suucient to ac...

Interaction of viral oncogenic proteins with the Wnt signaling pathway

It is estimated that up to 20% of all types of human cancers worldwide are attributed to viruses. The genome of oncogenic viruses carries genes that have protein products that act as oncoproteins in cell proliferation and transformation. The modulation of cell cycle control mechanisms, cellular regulatory and signaling pathways by oncogenic viruses, plays an important role in viral carcinogenes...

IQGAP1: a regulator of intracellular spacetime relativity.

Activating and inhibiting receptors of lymphocytes collect valuable information about their mikròs kósmos. This information is essential to initiate or to turn off complex signaling pathways. Irrespective of these advances, our knowledge on how these intracellular activation cascades are coordinated in a spatiotemporal manner is far from complete. Among multiple explanations, the scaffolding pr...

Protective effects of an interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin on gastric ischemia/reperfusion: the role of oxidative stress

Objectives:Vagal pathways in gastrointestinal tract are the most important pathways that regulate ischemia/reperfusion (I/R).  Gastrointestinal tract is one of the important sources of melatonin production. The aim of this study was to investigate probable protective effect of the interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin after I/R. Materials and methods:This study was performed in male rat...
